Hi, I have over 30 years experience playing and performing with guitar.
In this time I have performed in quite a few bands, trio’s etc.. which has given me a good understanding of the musical industry.
Started learning guitar in school at the age of 13, although uninspired by the strict music curriculum at the time I didn’t really get into playing and then learn to appreciate music until I left school. Once I learned a few simple songs I had heard on on the radio/TV etc... I was hooked and played almost very day. It wasn’t long after that I was fortunate to find a friend who would further my guitar skills in playing.
In hindsight with my first experience in formal music at school and then later just learning the practical skills to play has given me an insight (now as a teacher) how every student is different and this needs to be nurtured. Meaning to find out their strengths and weaknesses of what actually inspires them to want to play in the first few lessons. This can be quite crucial in how I will conduct or orchestrate the direction for their music lessons. In that being said, a combination of free form lesson time and part book work and theory discipline seems to be a great recipe to start out and preferably as a continued structure.
Keeping in mind everyone is different and this preferred structure can and will be altered to suit each individual.
I started teaching guitar about 9 years ago part time and over the first two years built up to full time work. Teaching all ages and all types has been rewarding while watching them progress to become accomplished players and confident performers.
As I began learning the practical skills of playing first, since teaching I have broken the barriers into understanding reading and theory to the point of taking my first academic students through to exam levels in 2015.
This musical hub is great for all musical students of all ages and abilities academic or practical which is why I also feel privileged to be working with such a vast array of musical knowledge, information, creative ideas and many many years experience combined with ready to share information among the music teachers here at the house.
