My musical journey started when I was young, dabbling in piano, violin, and joining my school's choir. However, my true love for music took off when I discovered the acoustic guitar when I was 14. I quickly fell in love with the instrument, spending many hours under a tree on our family farm in Orroroo, learning songs to sing and play. I began performing during my school years, and my passion for singing and playing the guitar has been a constant in my life, helping me connect with people of all ages and walks of life.
I've been a gigging musician for over 15 years, playing at various venues and events across South Australia, both as a solo musician and in various bands. Thanks to my 5 years as a primary music and classroom teacher, I've developed a natural ability to connect with children and inspire their love of music. I believe that to facilitate deep and authentic learning in a child, you must first create a fun, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere for kids to dance, sing, explore, and enjoy themselves.
More recently, I've become a mother to a music-loving daughter, inspiring a new direction in my musical pursuits and a new found appreciation for the amazing ways in which music aids development in children. This has led to the creation of a weekly live music performance aimed at babies, toddlers, and young children, called 'Groovy Garden Groms,' and my small group, interactive, live music classes at The House of Creative Learning, 'Music Rocks with Lisa Fox.'
Over the years, I've been immensely grateful for the gift of music. It has allowed me to connect with others - a universal language. Music has created friendships, been a key part of unforgettable moments, taken me to new places, and allowed me to play a part in people's most treasured moments. Music has been part of my most rewarding experiences as an educator when it has allowed me to nurture and encourage my students to follow their love of music, and push themselves to perform and grow. It gives me so much pride that I can play a small part in their musical story, and hopefully one day I can be a part of yours.
